(PublicWire.com Press Release) — NEW YORK, Dec. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — SurePure, Inc. (SURP), a global leader in liquid photopurification, announced today that Neil Patterson Wines (NPW) has launched a premium range of no sulphite added wines using SurePure’s patented photopurification technology.
NPW employs SurePure’s photopurification technology to microbiologically purify wine using ultra violet light instead of having to add sulphur-compounds to stabilise the wine. This not only provides a ‘greener’ alternative to traditional preservative methods, but also ensures a less harmful alternative to traditional chemical intervention for the consumer.
The range of wines, which will be available at speciality wine merchants and in select restaurants, includes both younger wines as well as older, more matured wines including a 2013 Sauvignon Blanc, a 2012 Chenin Blanc, a 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, and a 2009 Merlot all sourced from single vineyards in different terroirs that are suited to the cultivars and to the particular style of wines Patterson was seeking to craft.
Mr. Patterson, President of Neil Patterson Wines, who has 11 years’ experience in winemaking both in South Africa and France, stated, “We are pleased to be entering into an agreement with SurePure as I believe there is significant market demand for a premium range that offers high quality sulphite free wines for discerning wine drinkers who are searching for the ideal unpreserved ‘green’ alternative.”
According to Mr. Patterson, the range has under 10 parts per million of sulphites which are produced naturally during fermentation, compared to the average of 80 to 120ppm normally found in wines.
Steve Miller, SurePure’s VP Sales and Marketing, stated, “The launch of the Neil Patterson Wine range marks the first time a full range of premium wines has been specifically tailored using the SurePure technology. It is exciting for SurePure because it shows how a talented winemaker can use the SurePure technology as part of his wine crafting skillset to extract the very best out of each varietal and still deliver the benefits of extraordinarily low sulphite levels to the consumer. We believe it has pushed new boundaries for the technology and its oenological applications and with both fresh young wines and older, more matured wines under the same brand. This launch paves the way for broader acceptance and use of the technology in the wine industry.”
The South African Government legalised the use of ultra violet light energy for liquid purification in oenological practice in 2010, paving the way for South Africa’s winemakers to replace traditional wine filtration systems with photopurification technology, resulting in less harmful chemical intervention.
SurePure is a global leader in liquid photopurification, the green alternative to pasteurisation and chemicals. Using its patented ‘Turbulator’ technology, SurePure systems use UV-C light to purify microbiologically sensitive liquids such as wine, fruit juice and milk. Although designed to deliver food-grade solutions, it can also be harnessed to improve processing liquids such as water, brines and sugar syrup solutions, even animal blood plasma. SurePure’s technology offers greater microbiological efficacy than conventional UV systems and is effective for both clear and turbid liquids, a world first. SurePure offers a greener alternative to comparable heat or chemical-based processes and significant process and energy savings.
