The United States has charted an additional 8,407 COVID0-19 cases bringing the total infected individuals to 112,533, representing 17% of all the confirmed cases around the world, data from worldmeters.info reveals.

Total coronavirus deaths in the United States reached 1,876, with at least 180 new deaths in the last 24 hours. Around the world, the total number of confirmed coronavirus infection went beyond 600,000, with 28,964 fatalities as of the latest report. In total, 629,627 have been confirmed to be infected by the virus, with 33,159 new cases charted in the last 24 hours.

Out of the total number of infections, around 22% of them have already recovered. At least 138,085 have already been sent home and declared a recovery around the world.

The United States has become the top country in terms of the number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide. The U.S. is followed by Italy, with 86,498 confirmed cases as of writing. Nine thousand one hundred thirty-four (9,134) of the cases in Italy have died because of complications related to the virus, making it the country with the highest mortality rate.

Meanwhile, China has seen slowing of infected cases, with only 81 new confirmations made in the last 24 hours. These new cases bring the total of infected individuals in China to 81,394, the third most number of cases in the world.

SARS-CoV-2, the official name of the strain of coronavirus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic originated in Wuhan, China. Symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath. The pandemic, which has caused massive panic around the world, has also impacted the world economy in unprecedented gravity. IMF Chief Kristalina Georgieva said Friday that the global economy is experiencing a recession.
